EXCELLENCE AND QUALITY,

WITH RESPECT FOR EACH VINTAGE

WHO WE ARE

VerSer is the result of a family history and a deep connection with the hills of Serrapetrona.

The project's roots lie in the stories and early experiments in the cellar with Grandpa Peppe, but it was with his grandson Matteo—a winemaker and oenologist—that the dream took shape. Although far from the Marche region during his childhood, Matteo spent long periods there, absorbing the stories, aromas, and traditions that fueled his passion for vines and wine.

He was the first to study in depth the characteristics of Vernaccia nera and the winemaking techniques best suited to enhancing its potential. Matteo completed a long course of studies in viticulture and oenology in Milan, Asti, and Bordeaux. Today, he has chosen to transform his experience into a concrete project, bringing his skills and vision back to this region.

The name VerSer comes from the union of “Ver” from Vernaccia and “Ser” from Serrapetrona, but it is also a reference to the French verb "verser" which means to pour.

Our philosophy is based on respect for nature and a focus on the quality of the final product: we adopt a minimal-intervention approach, working in the vineyard and cellar only when necessary, and allowing the grapes to freely express the characteristics of the grape variety, the terroir, and the vintage. We vinify pure Vernaccia nera and Pecorino, accompanying the grapes with targeted interventions to enhance their natural characteristics, without ever distorting them, to obtain wines that faithfully reflect the terroir and the grape variety.

For this distinctive approach, which combines winemaking research, innovation, and the enhancement of native grape varieties, the company was included among Forbes’ 100 Italian Excellences 2025 in the Food & Beverage section.

This is VerSer: wines born from care, knowledge, and winemaking expertise, capable of moving people and elegantly enhancing the characteristics of the Serrapetrona area.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Low-impact

viticulture

We manage our vineyards with a low-impact approach: the use of pesticides and fertilizers is limited to what is strictly necessary, thanks to constant monitoring of agro-environmental conditions. We maintain grass cover and wildflowers to support bees, and we regularly analyze pollen quality as an indicator of ecosystem health.

Pure varietal expression and respect for the vintage

In the cellar, we work with precision and respect, calibrating every winemaking decision to support the vintage without making the wines uniform. We use only Vernaccia nera and Pecorino, without blending them with other varieties, thus enhancing their characteristics. Our clay soil contributes to the development of complexity and aromatic nuances, which intertwine with the natural variations of each vintage in aromas, flavours, and structure. This approach makes each vintage unique and enhances the pleasure of vertical tastings and wine comparisons.

Minimal sulphite

use

We keep sulfites to a minimum, using natural antioxidants during winemaking and protecting our wines with argon during aging. This pure, safe, food-grade gas allows us to preserve their quality and fragrance at their best, without resorting to high doses of sulfites. Only at bottling do we add a small amount of sulfites, which is essential to ensure freshness, stability, and perfect preservation even after opening.

Innovative winemaking

techniques

Our winery is designed to be managed by a single person, combining modern winemaking protocols with advanced technology. Equipment such as a flotation unit, peristaltic pumps, and argon protection systems allows us to carefully control every stage of winemaking, preserving the quality, freshness, and unique characteristics of each wine.

Vespero

Marche red passito IGT – 100% Vernaccia nera

Vespero is a passito made exclusively from Vernaccia nera grapes. The grapes are harvested between September and October in small crates and left to dry naturally for over six months. During this long period, no forced drying or anti-botrytis treatments are used: the bunches are exposed daily to the sun and wind on the winery terrace, encouraging a slow and natural drying process.

The result is a rare and concentrated wine: from 100 kg of fresh grapes, we obtain approximately 11 liters of wine.

Clemè

Serrapetrona DOC – 100% Vernaccia nera

After three years of bottle aging at a controlled temperature, Clemè 2022 perfectly expresses the most authentic characteristics of Vernaccia nera. CELLAR

Our winery is a newly designed facility that combines functionality and aesthetics, blending seamlessly into the hilly landscape of Carpignano. On the lower level, the winemaking area houses 18 stainless steel tanks of varying capacities, allowing for flexible winemaking choices and thorough sanitation, essential for producing quality wines. The grapes are processed with machinery designed to minimize stress, while noble gases such as nitrogen and argon preserve the aromatic freshness of the white and rosé wines.

Constant temperature control, provided by the refrigeration unit, ensures precision and care throughout every stage of the process. Upstairs is the drying room, dedicated to Vernaccia nera: a space that takes advantage of the valley’s natural air currents and the panoramic terrace for sun-drying, enhancing the wines’ complexity and intensity. A small in-house laboratory completes the facility, allowing for rigorous monitoring of every step, from grape to bottle.

VINEYARDS

Our vineyards are located in the Macerata hills, in Carpignano, in the municipality of San Severino Marche, at the heart of an area suited to producing fine wines, between 320 and 370 metres above sea level.

On approximately three hectares, we grow only Vernaccia nera and Pecorino, the result of targeted studies on the interaction between grape variety and terroir. Every phase, from design to daily care, is directly supervised by us, with systems designed for modern, sustainable agriculture.

Campo Nord, with 3,300 Vernaccia nera vines, was chosen to preserve freshness and acidity, producing elegant and harmonious wines. The lower part of Campo Nord hosts 2,000 Pecorino vines, exposed to wide temperature variations and clayey soils that enhance the grape’s rich aromas.

Campo Sud is the largest, with 6,000 Vernaccia nera vines, and is exposed to the sun from dawn to dusk: from here come rich, intense musts, ideal for structured reds and passito wines with great character.
